The research programme Earthbound is based on a coherent philosophy that consists of the elements soil, soul, and society. At the heart of it is a recognition and affirmation of the inner and cultural dimensions of sustainability (soul), besides and in interplay with its ecological aspects (soil), and social and economic dimensions (society). The book is divided into these sections, each of which has a different paper that is bio-degradable, such as from agricultural waste. The illustrations are made in cyanotype to represent the different sections as for example in the chapter soil the prints are made from roots.
